"Every child has a right to education"

    Slum Network for Education e.V.

We give orphans and children from extreme circumstances in the Bwaise slum (Kampala, Uganda) the chance for a self-determined life through education and care. Our ultimate goal: to build their own school for the poorest of the poor.

The association "Slum Network for Education e.V." supports the orphanage run by Salim Semambo Mukasa in the Bwaise district of Kampala, Uganda, and works closely with our partner organization "Slum Network for Education-Limited" in Uganda.

Bwaise is one of the most densely populated slums in Uganda. The association generates donations to enable all the children in the orphanage to attend school and receive an education, as well as to ensure their livelihood, health, and care. This also includes the necessary support for the livelihood of the staff and caregivers of our partner organization.

What are we currently doing for the children?

We ensure the basic needs of the children and young people in the children's home through nutrition, medical care and enable all of them to receive schooling and vocational training:

    • Financing of food, medicine and hospital visits

    • School fees and school materials for attending Dream Wise Junior School

    • Training costs for young people’s self-chosen professions.

    • Supply of clothing, blankets, hygiene products and more

What are our plans for the future?

Our dream is to have our own school with living quarters and self-sufficient vegetable gardens. A safe place that enables learning, living, and development:

    • Construction of a school for orphans and slum children without access to education

    • Literacy and career prospects for older adolescents

    • Creating housing and healthy food through home-grown produce

    Who is behind the project?

    Our team in Uganda:
The project is managed locally by Salim Semambo and his dedicated team – people who themselves grew up in the Bwaise slum and know exactly what matters. They care for the children with great dedication, ensuring their daily needs, safety, and school attendance.

    Our team in Germany:
The non-profit organization "Slum Network for Education e.V." was founded by Michaela Gabrielides and handles organization, public relations, and fundraising. We maintain close contact with Uganda and ensure that every donation reaches exactly where it is needed.
